Giving Back: Pro Bono Events

At KUKI DESIGN GROUP, we believe in giving back! In 2009, we donated our time and services to two great causes: promoting arts education and fighting world hunger:

Middle School Film Festival, NY Public School System: Students in middle school entered a school-wide contest to make their own film, compete for "best picture," and win one of 3000 cash scholarships. At the conclusion of the contest, school administrators asked us to design a setting where participating students would feel they had entered the world of filmmaking. So, in the large entrance lobby at the Frank Sinatra High School in Queens, KUKI DESIGN GROUP created an Academy Awards experience, using a red and black theme and small TV camera replicas for centerpieces on cocktail tables. Students were ushered onto the red carpet, often with friends and family, where they posed and smiled proudly as our team created flip books to capture their first-ever paparazzi moment.

Magic4Mercy Benefit: KUKI DESIGN GROUP transformed the Action Center to End World Hunger in Battery Park, Manhattan into an elegant stage and small theater for a benefit performance by world-renowned magician Steve Cohen. Starting with an unadorned, functional classroom-style space, we stayed with simple, yet elegant furniture and decorations that gave guests the impression they were walking into a suite at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, where this performer usually plays. With two open bars, passed hors d'oeuvres, white- draped gold chairs and a formal stage, guests enjoyed a magical, memorable evening.

DESIGNING GREEN

At KUKI DESIGN GROUP, we design and produce events with our beautiful, fragile earth in mind. Most of our props and construction materials are environmentally friendly and align themselves with nature in all her glory. For example, we collect the flowers used to decorate our event venues and donate them to a facility that turns them into compost. We also work with a company that recycles craft objects, cloth, and other art materials by donating them to schools and other nonprofit groups.
